Cancer52 welcomes the ambitions set out in the new 10 Year Health Plan for England, particularly its commitment to building a future-ready model of care that tackles health inequalities head-on. We hope that the resources will be able to match the ambitions.

  • With cancer diagnoses on the rise, especially rare and less common cancers, it’s vital that this plan delivers for all patients.

  • We’re encouraged by the focus on prevention, including initiatives targeting cervical and skin cancers. These efforts must be agile and inclusive, with the potential to improve outcomes across the full spectrum of cancer types.

  • Our community sees real promise in the innovations promised; joined up working of NICE and MHRA, the introduction of a single patient record, the thoughtful use of AI and technology, cancer vaccines, and expanded access to genomic services, multi-cancer detection tests, self-referrals, and diagnostics, with the right safeguards in place.

We look forward to seeing more detail in the upcoming National Cancer Plan, particularly around how it will support those affected by rare and less common cancers, in alignment with the direction set by this 10-year vision.
