Yesterday afternoon, the Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) UK team cycled into Uxbridge, marking the end of this year’s Country 2 Country 4 Cancer (C2C4C) cycling challenge! Picking up from the French BMS team in Tours, France, the UK team covered over 720km of French vineyards, British countryside and ferry ports over three days, before rolling into Uxbridge yesterday afternoon to a warm reception for all of their hard work.
The UK team completed the sixth and last leg of the sponsored bike ride, which covered over 3,600km in total and saw multiple BMS teams cycle in segments from Munich, Germany to Uxbridge in the UK, over 18 days. The amount raised for Cancer52 currently stands at nearly £17,000 and there is still time to donate as we’d love to take this even higher! Below we meet two more of the eight BMS UK riders who cycled through France and the UK to help support people affected by rare and less common cancers now they have crossed the finish line, David and Simon.
David Tyas lives in London, though he previously lived in Paris, spurring his excitement for the section of the cycling route spanning the French capital. Despite being new to cycling, he trained for the ride across Richmond Park and the Surrey Hills, clocking up over 3,000km since April (almost equivalent to the entire length of the C2C4C route!). David took part to raise awareness of the preventability of cancers, encouraging education around symptoms and risk factors.
The sixth member of the UK team to introduce is Simon Cole of the Wirral. Simon is relatively new to cycling, but before C2C4C, he had already completed several cycling challenges to raise money for Cancer Research UK, and like David, has cycled a whopping 3,000km since April this year. Simon is a huge sports fan who also enjoys playing squash and badminton. Simon has known many people who have been affected by cancer, and took part in the ride to generate awareness and funding for Cancer52.
